Impossible? Don't You Believe It!

At some stage in their lives, everybody dreams of being someone special, someone who "has it all". I am willing to bet that you personally have "lived the moment" of scoring the winning touch-down in the World Series, or the winning goal in a Cup final, or even winning X-Factor! Or maybe you just dream of being rich, successful, and living happily ever after.

We all fantasize about these things, and often have great aspirations and ideas from time to time. Unfortunately, they usually get no further than vague dreams with no basis to become reality.

This is a very sad state of affairs. Rather than "taking the plunge" and creating some excitement in our lives, it's all to easy to sit back and do the same as we've always done, day in, day out... Because it's safe, and just simpler to do so!

The thing is... If you tried just a little bit harder, aimed just a little bit higher, you could be on your way to realizing some of those dreams.

The main "stumbling block" for most people is just one word... "Impossible". Many people just can't get past the fear of doing "something different", or feel that it's "impossible" for "people like them" to achieve great things. Or just that "it's too hard".

However, There are millions of people who have done just that over the years... What about the inventors, the innovators, the explorers, or even the entrepreneurs among us? Most of whom were one day just like you and me.

Did you know that in theory the bumble bee cannot fly, according to scientists it was impossible... but apparently, nobody told the bee... so it flies anyway.

Alternatively, some people have these fantastic dreams and aspirations, but never act on them... Why not? Because it's easier to think them "impossible"! Result... absolutely nothing gained!

Self- doubt, self-limiting assumptions, and "fear of the impossible" will stop you ever achieving anything worthwhile in your life. You can dream all you want, but if you never take that first step towards attaining it, you'll find it "impossible" to ever reach your goal...

Have a go at this exercise...

Grab a notepad and write down what you'd like to achieve in your life. Make three columns, one with "what you CAN do", one with "what you MAY be capabable of", and one with what you think are "IMPOSSIBLE to do"...

Now, every day try to accomplish some of the things in the "can do" column, and mark them off when you've done them. Then have a go at the "may do" list, try to complete as many of those as you can... and mark them off.

Now, as you complete the "may do" list, start moving goals from the "impossible" list into the "may be capable of" column... Whilst working through this process, you may well find that your originally "impossible" goals seem easier... and the impossible now might appear achievable!

The thing is, don't limit yourself of your imagination out of hand. Look at what you want to achieve in the long run, then start working towards it gradually, a step at a time. Provided your perceived goal isn't something absolutely unrealistic, you will get there if you try.

You will never realize your dream if all you ever do is dream about it... There is no point in longing for something that you will never work at to achieve.

Nonetheless, a hundred years ago you would have been laughed at if you so much as dreamt that man would land on the moon. Likewise if you thought you could (virtually) talk to someone on the other side of the world "face to face" without leaving your living room! But, it just goes to show that almost nothing is impossible...

If you want any chance at all of acheiving your dreams, you have to work hard at it... As Edison once said "Genius is 1% inspiration, and 99% persperation", and to be fair, he should know. Forgive me for laboring the point, but I'm sure you've heard of the phrase "no pain, no gain", well ask any sportsman (or woman) or big acheiver in any field, and they will tell you of the immense effort it took to be where they are.

So, by all means keep dreaming, but don't limit yourself to just the "possible", if you take your goals one small step at a time, you might just find that YOU CAN achieve the "impossible".
