<p>Stress is something that all of us deal with from time to time but unfortunately, there are times whenever it may get so strong that it can be difficult to handle.  Some of us may even experience anxiety attacks, a very common occurrence in today&#8217;s world.  <a href="http://www.needtofind.org/overcomestress/"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-612" title="controlstress" src="http://www.needtofind.org/better-life-blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/controlstress.jpg" alt="Learn To Control Stress" width="240" height="240" /></a>The reality of it is, however, stress, in itself, is not necessarily a bad thing.  As a matter of fact, we need stress in order to deal with situations that come up in our lives that need a bit more attention than usual, just run of the mill, everyday issues. Thing is, although we need it, we also need to learn to <em>control stress</em>.</p>
<p>The problem occurs whenever the stress gets so difficult to handle or appears so often, that it seems to just compound itself.  There comes a time when we are seemingly unable to handle the situation, and eventually, we are going to need to learn how to control the stress otherwise it is going to ruin our lives.</p>
<p>One way that you can do this is by changing your thinking.  I know that sounds rather simplistic, but it is one of the most effective ways for you to be able to handle and control the stress that you are under.</p>
<p>If you are already at breaking point as far as your stress is concerned, it may take a little bit of time to adjust your thinking and benefit from this particular method.  The good news is, you will experience almost immediate results that you will be able to identify with rather quickly.  Simply begin to change the way that you think about stress and to look at your situation in life through a more positive aspect.  It is not necessary, or  probably possible for you to get rid of your stress altogether, that would be counterproductive.  What is necessary, however, is to learn to <strong>control stress</strong>, and realize that not everything needs to be on <em>your</em> shoulders, and quite honestly, there are some things that you cannot change.</p>

<p>If you set aside the things that you cannot change and stop fretting over them, that will leave you only with the situations or problems that should concern you.  By dealing with them one at a time, considering that the others will have to wait until you get to them, you will be able to eventually get through the list and <a title="Control Stress" href="http://www.needtofind.org/better-life-blog/category/stress-anxiety" target="_self">control stress</a> more effectively.</p>
<p>You may also want to set up specific &#8220;YOU&#8221; time in order to help to control stressful situations.  If your stress level remains at an elevated state for too long, it can actually affect your health and this can make it more difficult for us to get through our day-to-day activities.  That is why it is a good idea to schedule some stress busting time for yourself, perhaps through going out with friends, or even taking up a sport etc.  Even doing something for ourselves such as this a few times a month can really go a long way in reducing our stress levels.</p>

An idea can transform the world and rewrite all the rules&#8221;</strong>. An interesting observation or &#8220;truism&#8221; that many of us are unable to grasp easily&#8230;</p>
<p>But why is that? We have all read the history books, read the newspapers, and watch TV, and have seen that &#8220;ordinary&#8221; people break records and make headlines every day&#8230; So <strong>why not you</strong> (or me)?</p>
<p>Aside from it&#8217;s entertainment value, many people <a title="Ideas and inspiration..." href="http://www.needtofind.org/" target="_blank"><strong>gain inspiration</strong></a> from books and movies, whether it be just the story line, how a particular character is portrayed, the soundtrack, or even a spectacular scene. There is also the &#8220;concept&#8221; or base idea of a book or movie that may inspire you&#8230; In this case recognition of the power of the brain&#8217;s subconscious abilities.</p>
<p>Yes, it&#8217;s only a movie, and the story is fiction&#8230; But the premise or idea behind it is true. Everybody possesses potentially tremendous power that they may never discover if they don&#8217;t allow themselves to release it, or are not prepared to learn how.</p>
<p>Is that a resource you can afford to ignore? <p>For a start, you have to be honest with yourself, and realize what sort of person you are. That is, are you someone who thrives and performs better with big challenges and who puts their heart and soul into a certain project&#8230; Or, like most, less confident and prefer to tackle projects one step at a time?</p>
<p><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-600" title="achievegoals" src="http://www.needtofind.org/better-life-blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/achievegoals-300x194.jpg" alt="Achieve Goals" width="300" height="194" />Either way, the point is that before you start any new endeavor, you need to know what motivates YOU!</p>
<p>People set their goals differently, depending on their current situation, resources available, physical ability and other factors. You can, however, follow some guidelines to make sure that your goals are credible and possible. Too many individuals set their goals too high unknowingly, only to lose interest and get disappointed for life. So here are some tips on how to set goals and actually ACHIEVE them!</p>
<p><strong>You Must Be Specific!</strong></p>
<p>Goals need to be specific, so that you know which part of the process you&#8217;re currently in and the particular ways on how you will achieve them. Most people have goals to get promoted, get rich, improve relationships and the like, but these are very vague and your mind can become confused about what you truly mean. General descriptions usually do not have boundaries, so you always leave room for mistakes and compromise. If you want results that you can be proud of, be specific.</p>
<p>To be specific, you need to include the full details. Write down something like, &#8220;I want to get $10,000 by November of this year,&#8221; or &#8220;I need to become Team Leader of the sales department by next June,&#8221; or &#8220;I want my kids, Karen and Steve, to go on the school Ski trip this year.&#8221; Include the names, the position, the amount, the date and everything else needed to <a title="Learn To Achieve..." href="http://www.needtofind.org/achieve-your-dreams/" target="_blank"><strong>train your mind</strong></a> to start working towards that goal.</p>
<p><strong>Your Goals Must Be Measurable!</strong></p>
<p>Goals need to be measurable so that you can gauge how well you have done lately. To help measure your progress, you should include measurable details. For your job, you can include details such as the number of hours you&#8217;re working, the amount you&#8217;re earning, the staff you&#8217;re handling, etc. For the goal of money, you can include details such as the amount you want to have as a whole, the number of companies or businesses you own, your contact persons, etc. For losing weight, how many lbs lost per week etc. Always have things and items to be measured so you can understand how close you are to getting your goals. If your goal is to earn $10,000 a month, then you know you&#8217;re halfway there if you&#8217;re already earning $5,000 a month.</p>
<p><strong>Your Goals Must Be </strong><strong>Realistic</strong><strong> and </strong><strong>Attainable!</strong></p>
<p>Only set goals that can possibly be accomplished (by YOU). Some people set goals that are too high to reach, so that they are almost setting up things that are impossible. Make sure you only set objectives that you can reach within a given amount of time, provided the current resources and capabilities you have. Some examples of impossible goals are doubling your salary overnight, getting a promotion higher than your boss&#8217;s position, etc. Some goals can be achieved faster compared to others if you have some strengths and strategies to back these up. Always include a strategic plan for big objectives.</p>
<p><strong>Set A Time-Scale!</strong></p>
<p>Set deadlines to <a title="Learn To Achieve..." href="http://www.needtofind.org/achieve-your-dreams/" target="_blank"><strong>achieve your goals</strong></a>, or else you&#8217;re never going to finish anything. Stay specific when setting time-lines and schedules. For example, indicate things like &#8220;To spend an hour with my wife every day starting tomorrow (indicate exact date and year)&#8221;. Setting the exact time and date will spur you to start working on your goals (and sticking to it), instead of putting it off for another available time. Some bigger goals can take years to accomplish, so it is wiser to break these down into smaller objectives, still complete with deadlines. You can then finish everything in a planned sequence to finally reach your biggest original goal.</p>

<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-493" title="sail1" src="http://www.needtofind.org/better-life-blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/sail1.jpg" alt="Visualize Your Goal..." width="260" height="235" /> It is helpful to have visual goals. whatsoever that is you are working towards, make it visual. It maybe something material like a car, or a vacation you have been looking forward to for the longest time. Take or cut out a picture of it and post it at a conspicuous place at work or at home where you can see it often. So that when you feel discouraged, this will remind you of your goal and will help you keep your spotlight.</p>
<p>Make a contract with yourself. According to motivational researches, people who write down to-do-lists are far more triumphant in achieving their intended goals than those people who just keep mental lists instead. Putting something in writing somehow makes it more powerful psychologically speaking. This may also be the basis why most cultures have such a high regard in honoring contracts. In the contract, you may also include a certain reward that you will give yourself once you have accomplished the task.</p>
<p>After all, everyone likes to be rewarded for completing a good job. Even a simple pat on the back, “good job”, or “thank you” may do the trick to give the person the additional push to carry on, but unfortunately, these may not<br />
always be readily available. Considering that these are also essential in keeping yourself motivated, you must learn to find a way to get that encouragement on your own through pleasing yourself.</p>
<p>Abusive people lower your self-esteem and bring you down. Get these negative people out of your life. Surround yourself with positive people. Imitate their example. Smile often and think happy thoughts. These will give you a brighter outlook and lets you see a clearer picture of what you really want and a fresh mind to know what steps to take to get there. Rather than wait for things to happen, try to be proactive and MAKE THINGS HAPPEN. Inactivity idles the brain and stagnates your potential to reach your goals.</p>

These will help you improve your attitude and heal your mind. A book of success stories also proves to be encouraging. By “forcing” yourself to just do it, your momentum will pick up gradually as you go along and before you know it you have finished the task or have finally achieved your goal. Divide and conquer is the key.</p>
<p>Break down the apparently unattainable activity to small doable steps. Not only does it become less overwhelming, but seeing the &#8220;in the meantime&#8221; results will further your confidence that it can indeed be done.</p>
<p>Lack of motivation happens to us all, but if you do not encourage yourself to accept opportunities and be challenged, no one else will. It is most important to keep your eye on the goal, find ways to keep going, and in no time, you shall reap its benefits.</p>

<p>1. <strong>Try to stop thinking negative thoughts about yourself.</strong> If you&#8217;re used to focusing on your shortcomings, start thinking about positive aspects of yourself that outweigh them. When you catch yourself being too critical, counter it by saying something positive about yourself. Each day, write down three things about yourself that make you happy.</p>
<p>2. <strong>Aim for accomplishments rather than perfection.</strong> Some people become paralyzed by perfection. Instead of holding yourself back with thoughts like, &#8220;I won&#8217;t audition for the play until I lose 10 pounds,&#8221; think about what you&#8217;re good at and what you enjoy, and go for it.</p>
<p>3. <strong>View mistakes as learning opportunities.</strong> Accept that you will make mistakes because everyone does. Mistakes are part of learning. But, it would seem that all the informational overload, whirring computers and media blitz has given us is more time for work. It is not unusual for men and women to work sixty or seventy hours per week on average. Some of us work eighty or ninety hours without batting an eyelash. And, we fool ourselves into thinking we have a life!</p>
<p>If you are one of the enlightened few, you have already come to the conclusion that giving up a social and family life is too great a price to pay for career success.</p>
<p>You may hate what has happened to your life. But, you probably don’t know how to change the landscape. You will be happy to know that <strong>you CAN change your life.</strong></p>
<p>Whether you make this decision for health reasons, relationship reasons or simply out of the need to get control over your own life, you have more than enough justification and motivation to make the move. However, you need to make a firm commitment to this change. Be realistic about how fast and how far you can go with this plan.</p>
<p>But, let’s be clear about something! What we are talking about here is not quitting your job and hoping that someone will donate money to the cause. There is a real difference between achieving balance in your work and family life and the idea that you don’t have to work at all.</p>
<p>Work is part of life, and it is healthy and constructive. It pays the bills; it gives us the reward of real accomplishment and feeling of useful participation in the community and in society. What we are talking about here is the rational balance of your work and social life – a balance that is all too rare in today’s society, and one whose absence has caused sky-high health-care costs and a dramatic increase in stress, psychological and relationship problems.</p>
<p><strong>Now that we are clear on the goals and reasons for work/life balance, let’s continue!</strong></p>
<p>If you’ve decided to jump off the merry-go-round and seek some occasional solace with your family and friends, you must have a plan for your escape.</p>
<p>First, and foremost, you must set goals! Involve your boss, co-workers, friends and family in the process and keep the lines of communication open, and you’ll end up where you want to be. Sounds easy, doesn’t it?</p>

The problem is that many people shy away from learning to dance, despite a sincere desire to do just that out of fear of being seen in<br />
the learning process. This is such a sad reason to avoid bringing the joy of dance into your life and one that can be so easily avoided if you are willing to make the efforts that would be required.</p>
<p>First of all, you can learn to dance within the comfort of your very own home. You do not need a dance hall or studio with mirrors to learn to dance even though they are helpful to the process. In all truthfulness it is quite possible to learn to dance at home without even procuring a teacher.</p>
<p>There are many DVDs and instructional tapes and videos on the market that can teach the basics of many different styles of dance. If you aren&#8217;t sure what type of dance you are most interested in, it isn&#8217;t a terrible idea to begin by ordering some DVDs in order to find out what specific type of dance interests you most. The really neat thing about doing this is that you can being the learning process in your very own home with the curtains drawn and no one will ever need to be any wiser.</p>

The really good news is that this sort of physical activity won&#8217;t feel like exercise and if you play your cards right with your partner it just might lead to other forms of physical activity. Keep in mind that many people find dance to be a very romantic precursor to other romantic pursuits.</p>
<p>Backing away from the romance department you can even find a great and occasionally merciless audience in your children. They also make great practice partners and guinea pigs and if you control the allowance, then you might even manage to squeeze out a compliment or two to help your potentially wounded ego through the event. Kids are great fun though when it comes to dancing and (younger kids anyway) are almost always willing to kick back and have a laugh at mom or dad&#8217;s expense. If you want to make a really fun afternoon of things, challenge your kids to a &#8220;dance off&#8221;, you just might be surprised at who is the last one standing.</p>

Having an audience can be a frightening thing, however, once you&#8217;ve passed the child test you should be ready for the most ruthless audience any dance studio can give. You should also keep in mind that other students in the class (should you ever decide you are ready to take an actual class) are probably just as nervous about their level of skill as you may be.</p>

But sometimes, in doing so, miss out on what could be a pastime to look forward to.</p>
<p>Far too often we get caught up in the necessity of cooking in order to eat and forget the absolute joy that can be found through the art of cooking. Of course this isn&#8217;t limited to stovetop cooking. There are many men and women around the world who find baking to be an extremely pleasurable pastime in addition to traditional stovetop cooking or even barbecuing on a grill. The main distinction occurs in how you perceive your cooking projects.</p>
<p><strong>How Do Your View Cooking?<br />
</strong><br />
While this question is asked somewhat rhetorically, it is a question you should ask yourself and answer. Do you view cooking as a chore or duty or do you view it as a project? There is something much more exciting about embarking on a new project than getting around to a loathsome chore. If you do view cooking as a chore the more important question might be&#8230; Why?</p>
<p>Some common reasons that people dislike cooking include the following: lack of skill, lack of confidence, boredom, or you could simply dislike the inevitable clean up far more than you enjoy the process of cooking. For each of these, there are solutions if you are willing to make the effort.</p>
<p>A lack of skill when it comes to cooking can be easily corrected in most cases by taking a few cooking classes (and practice). Classes are offered for varying degrees of skill sets and are meant to help you develop your cooking talents while teaching you the basics of meal planning and preparation. You can increase your skills by taking more classes down the road.</p>
<p>While a lack of confidence is a little more difficult to address, having a few &#8220;dinner parties&#8221; in which your guests can compliment your culinary talents can often solve this particular dilemma. The key in this process is to plan your menu carefully and remain well within your comfort zone. You will be amazed at the wonderfully rich and delicious meals that can be prepared with very little effort if you are willing to sift through the recipe books in order to find them.</p>
<p><strong>Boredom in the kitchen is perhaps one of the easiest problems to fix there is..</strong>.</p>
<p>The solution is exceedingly simple&#8230; Find a challenge. Try cooking Thai or Indian cuisine. Try more difficult recipes. Try making only meals from scratch or simply try broadening your use of spices and seasonings. There are many things you can do in order to bring some excitement back into your kitchen. You may even discover hidden talents and tastes in the process.</p>
<p>There will always be the clean up. My suggestion is to make a deal with either your partner or your children and they can draw straws over who cleans up. Of course if this won&#8217;t work in your family, you could always turn over a new leaf and clean as you go whenever possible. This makes the clean up process after dinner so much simpler to handle that it is well worth a few extra minutes during meal prep.</p>
<p><strong>Cooking for pleasure is really the only way to cook.</strong> If you have difficulties when it comes to finding the enjoyment and entertainment value of cooking, perhaps it&#8217;s time to bring some life back into your kitchen. For example, if you&#8217;re cooking Italian, find some nice Italian music to set the mood. Bring the life back into your kitchen and you will find that cooking is a pleasure rather than a chore.<!-- pingbacker_start --><br />

<p>1) <em><strong>Are you disciplined?</strong></em> This may seem like such an innocuous question because we would all like to think that we are disciplined to some degree. The problem is that when you are in the driver&#8217;s seat for your own education you need to have a little more than some small degree of discipline. You need to be able to meet deadlines, take the tests, and hold yourself responsible for actually learning the information that you need to learn in order to pass the course. There is no one to blame but yourself if you do not manage to do well in your online classes and some people simply do not like being in the drivers seat when it comes to motivating and pacing themselves and their learning practices.</p>
<p>2) <em><strong>How do you learn best?</strong></em> We all have different methods of learning for which we retain information better than others. Online courses are reading intensive. If you have difficulties retaining the information you read you may need to find an alternate learning method or seek solutions with the assistance of the course instructor before moving forward in an online learning environment.</p>
<p>3) <em><strong>Do you have a true desire to succeed?</strong></em> The answer to this question is quite important in determining whether or not online learning is in your best interest. There are many paths you can take in order to achieve the education and degree you desire. This is not the path of the masses, at least not yet. This type of learning, more than any other is easy to give up on through apathy. If you aren&#8217;t determined to do the assignments, to study the notes, and to really learn the material that is presented to you then you really do not need to waste your time or the instructor&#8217;s time by continually making up excuses. Online courses are largely self-paced but you do have a limited amount of time in which to learn the material before you need to move on. The teacher is responsible for providing you the information and material but you are responsible for everything that happens from that moment on. Are you ready for that responsibility?</p>
<p>Whether you are a first time college student or a professional that is returning to school after a long absence online learning can open new doors of opportunity for your learning pleasure. You must be willing to walk through those doors and take the information that is presented to you however in order to be successful. My sincere hope is that everyone reading this will carefully consider whether or not the lack of structure that many online courses provides is going to be conducive to your specific learning and educational needs before taking the plunge.<!-- pingbacker_start --><br />
